Overview of Alkylations

Alkylation means adding an alkyl group (or may be several alkyl groups). This usually means converting an N-H into an N-R.

• Alkylation of ammonia,  yields primary amines, secondary amines, tertiary amines and quaternary ammonium salts.
• Alkylation of phthalimide, yields primary amines
