Answers to the synthesis problems are given below. These answers have been selected as they are short but there are probably other reasonable / alternative solutions ..... Of course they are based on the reactions covered in the Fall semester !

Common mistakes:

Not identifying a suitable nucleophile / electrophile pair, not using materials consistent with the allowed starting materials as defined in the question, incorrect / ignoring selectivity (regio and stereo) of reactions / mechanisms, loss or gain of C atoms. Not managing selectivity issues (e.g. radical halogenation). Incorrect reagents.
